Tahara Akmal earned an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Pastoral Care & Counseling, and Islamic Studies from the Claremont School of Theology. She became a Chaplain Intern at The Ohio State Medical Center, a Chaplain Resident at UCLA Health, and then an advanced Chaplain Resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She went on to serve as an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Certified Educator and Chaplain at Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences. Tahara currently serves as the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program Manager at Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. She is the first Muslim woman in the United States to become certified as a CPE Educator by ACPE. Tahara is a Ph.D. Candidate at Alvernia University, where she is researching Chaplaincy and Leadership.
