Academic Standing and Dismissal Policy
Students at Bayan Islamic Graduate School are required to maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout their program. A graduate student who fails two courses, including Arabic, may face dismissal from their program. Arabic is regarded as the sacred and liturgical language of the Quran; therefore, proficiency in this language is crucial.
All students must be tested in Arabic and are required to enroll in an Arabic course during their first term upon entering the college. Students who do not achieve an appropriate level of proficiency in Arabic may be required to continue taking Arabic courses until they meet the necessary standards.
If a student fails two courses, including Arabic, the administration, in consultation with the Dean, will conduct a review of the student's academic performance to determine if dismissal is warranted. Students will be notified of any potential dismissal and will have the opportunity to discuss their academic standing with the administration.
It is imperative for students to seek support and communicate any challenges they may encounter in their coursework, particularly in Arabic.
Unsatisfactory Academic Performance
Warning
A warning will be issued to students whose academic performance in the previous term is low, yet their cumulative record remains above the minimum graduation level.
Probation
Students whose cumulative grade point average (GPA) falls below the minimum standard for graduation (3.0) will be placed on academic probation at the beginning of the following semester. Students can exit probation by raising their GPA above 3.0. They are allowed two semesters on academic probation before facing potential separation from Bayan. Students should connect with their academic advisor and the Registrar to determine the necessary steps for academic advancement.
Separation
Students who do not raise their GPA to the minimum graduation standard after two consecutive semesters on probation may be separated from Bayan. Additionally, students who are inactive for two consecutive semesters may also be separated. Students may face separation for non-academic reasons, as outlined in Section VI. Students who are separated cease to hold student status.
Dismissal Policy
Any student who fails a course twice, including Arabic, will be subject to dismissal from Bayan and will need to reapply for admission.
Readmission
Students separated due to academic reasons may reapply for admission after one year from the time of separation. The application for readmission must provide justification for why Bayan should reconsider the student's admission. All students readmitted after separation will return with probationary status, and their previously earned credits will remain intact.
